Your guide to throwing the ULTIMATE Baby Shower

Having a baby is a BIG deal. It's a LIFE CHANGER!!

So it's only fair that the mum to be should be given one last 'hoorah' - a chance to shower her with love, well wishes, silly games and most importantly - Gifts!

Start with a THEME:

Whether you are team pink, blue or GREEN, there is a baby shower theme for almost every taste and budget! Our top picks include:

Watercolour Theme: Watercoloured everything is IN right now, so if your guests are the coolest of the cool, then a Watercolour themed party is totally the way to go. Start with some gorgeous invitations, paint a menu board with watercolours and of course....then there's the cake…

Boho Chic Theme: Add a boho vibe to your baby shower by using neutral colour palettes. Place succulents on the tables, lots of rustic wood and colour coordinated dream catchers hung in the party area.

Monochrome Theme (with a POP of colour!): Perfect for a gender neutral baby shower if the mum to be is still Team Green - and also a great theme for those on a strict budget! Decorate everything in black and white and then throw in a pop of colour with tissue paper pom poms, balloons and tassels. Decorations can easily be sourced on sites like ebay and are usually less expensive than those created to specific themes.

Games are a must at almost any party - and the funnier the better!

Easy games that guarantee a laugh include:

Drink Up, Baby!  This game is always a hilarious hit. Fill baby bottles with the drink of your choice-beer for the guys at a mixed adults baby bash and apple juice for the kids at a family baby shower. Everyone gets a bottle and on the count of three they must suck the bottles dry as quickly as possible. Of course the first one to finish their bottle wins!

Baby Portraits: Who knew you could have this much fun with paper plates!? Pass out sturdy paper plates and textas to your party guests. Let them know they'll be drawing a picture of the baby, and the best sketch will win. The catch??  Everyone has to draw with the paper plate on top of their head! It's a hilarious sight and the finished portraits are guaranteed to have everyone in stitches!

Guess the Baby Food: . It's pretty obvious that baby food in jars looks nothing like the name of the meal would suggest. Gather 7 or 8 unique flavours of baby food jars, number each lid and tear off the labels. Ask each guest to grab a spoon (paddle pop sticks work well too!) and start sampling! The guest who guesses the most correct wins!

When it comes to food and drinks, the possibilities are endless! Finger foods generally work best and are the easiest option - just choose whether you want to go for sweet or savoury (or a mix of both!)
For drinks, a fruity punch is the way to go. Just remember to make it alcohol free so the mum to be can enjoy it too

A party favour or small gift is a great way to thank your guests for sharing this special event. It can be fun to select a favour that coordinates with your chosen theme - for example mini succulents or cactus for a Boho themed shower.

Other great ideas include decorated and individually wrapped sugar cookies, packaged popcorn (She's ready to POP!) and a candy buffet so that guests can choose their own sweet treat

Finding the ULTIMATE Baby Shower Gift!

All guests will no doubt be scrambling to find the new mum a gift before the special day - but what to give?!? Outfits are cute, nappies are no doubt useful, toys are fun...but within a few months those gifts will be long forgotten.

For a stand out gift that lasts LONG after baby has arrived, the Along Came A Baby milestone book is perfect! The mum to be can fill in her new keepsake book throughout her pregnancy, once baby arrives and all the way up until that child starts school. And then it will be a beautiful reminder of those early years that can be shared with others.
